В основу концепции «Holy Wood» легла тематика культа смерти, «мертвых звезд» и «мучеников» в американской культуре. Последствия событий в Колумбине также оставили эмоциональный отпечаток на этой записи.
СИМВОЛ МЕРКУРИЯ
Меркурий — планетарный металл в алхимии, символизирующий ртуть. Согласно алхимической философии — Философская Ртуть — душа материи, она есть идеальное вещество, связывающее Дух и Тело в единое целое. Алхимическая ртуть соединяет в себе два начала — мужское и женское — серу и ртуть, и символизирует соединение противоположностей. Поэтому зачастую она изображалась в виде двуполого андрогина или двуглавого человека — Ребиса.
АДАМ
Адам Кэдмон — центральный персонаж альбома. Он является воплощением героев предыдущих частей Триптиха, однако, как и каждый из них, является самостоятельной личностью. Поиск совершенного мира — одна из параллелей, обединяющих Мальчика-Червя, Омегу и Адама. Помимо этого сквозь «Mechanical Animals» и «Holy Wood» проходит тематическая линия любви главного героя к Коме Белой. Эта связь терпит трагический финал в песне «Coma Black».
